Ed Hobin is the Outreach Project Coordinator of the Southwest Florida Water Management District and has more than 33 years of experience working in water treatment plant operations and water management. He joined the District in 1987 and served as the Director of Governmental and Legislative Affairs. Before that, Ed was program manager of the Florida Rural Water Association. He currently serves as a member of the Association's Board of Directors. A Navy veteran, he holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of North Florida and a State Class "A" Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operators License. He is Past-president of the Rotary Club of Brooksville and also served 3 years as an Assistant Governor in Rotary District 6950

BOYD HILL – “BIRDS OF PREY”
GABRIEL VARGO

Gabriel A. Vargo received his BS and MS Degrees in Botany from the University of Miami and his PhD in Biological Oceanography from the University Of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography. Until his retirement in 2008, his work focused on the physiological ecology of phytoplankton. During his 28 year tenure at the College of Marine Science, USF he studied the growth and nutrition of our local red tide organism, Karenia brevis. More recently his work shifted toward the impacts of red tides and their toxins on wildlife, particularly sea and shorebirds. This led to his involvement with SEANET, a volunteer program which monitors sea and shorebird deaths along the U.S. east and gulf coast.

Dr. Peter Betzer


Dr. Peter Betzer serves as President of the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership, a group that has been pivotal to the emergence of St. Petersburg as a center for marine research in the United States. He and his business colleagues are currently focused on expanding the cluster of technological businesses that are associated with this extensive marine research complex. Prior to joining the partnership in 2008, Dr. Betzer served as Dean and Professor of University of South Florida’s College of Marine Science. He joined USF’s marine science faculty in 1971 and
spent 37 years in this academic setting. He was awarded a Ph.D. in chemical oceanography from the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography. Dr. Betzer is the author of over 60 scientific publications in journals and books.

Rotary 6950 District Governor
Russell Miller

Rotary came knocking on Russ Miller’s door in 1999 and the next great part of Russ’life began. The Wesley Chapel Sunrise Club was formed from the existing Land O’Lakes/Lutz Club where Russ has served as Club President and on most committees. His home club has recognized him for many achievements in the community and named him Rotarian of the Year in 2003-2004.
